Whats The Difference In Mil & Gauge?

Updated 2 months ago by Meagan W.

A Mil is an actual unit of measurement and gauge is more of an estimate based on our findings. Mil represents 1 one thousandth of an inch. Using a micrometer, we found the following. The x represents a 4th digit that varied among tests.

20 mil = .020x

25 mil = .025x

27 mil = .027x

30 mil = .030x

20 Gauge = .012x(12 mil)

25 gauge = .015x - .016x depending on mfg ( 15 or 16 mil)

30 gauge = .018x-.019x depending on mfg ( 18-19 mil )

How did we do?
